White's fridge is immaculate, painstakingly organized and overflowing with attractive baskets of fresh fruit.
So confident is White in the orderliness of her fridge's interior that she has invested in a model with a transparent door, allowing anyone who visits her kitchen full view of its contents.
Glenn's fridge, meanwhile, is of another breed.
She describes its interior using adjectives like 'messy' and 'disgusting.' (Although it wasn't anything like that when we visited for a photo.)
So appalled is she by her own icebox, Glenn composed a poetic ode to its nastiness. A sample stanza:
The mayonnaise looks like mustard/ The cottage cheese is sour
That green stuff once was custard/ Don't look at the cauliflower.
Recently, we asked brave women of Wichita to open up their refrigerator doors and share the moldy secrets buried deep within.
The bigger question we posed, though, was the following:
What does the state of your fridge say about you?
We heard back from several women, ranging from neat-n-tidy fridge keepers like White to harried cooks like Glenn, who tend to conduct unintentional science experiments on their refrigerator shelves.
Jackie Sigwing of Florence sent in a photo of her fridge, which appeared to be busting at the seams.
Along with it, she sent a detailed excuse for every offense. The yogurt was on sale

There's something about a new refrigerator that isn't about the new refrigerator.
It's about the old one.
Mary and I spent the better part of the weekend searching for a new fridge. We went to various stores, we compared on line, we dickered with the sales person.
Our old refrigerator wasn't dead, but its useful life in a modern kitchen was coming to a close. The ice maker wasn't operating well. The doors were a little crooked. 1992 called and wanted its fridge back
